Black Strathcona

Here is a website that chronicles the history of Black Strathcona, which I blogged about recently here. I don’t know much about how the website came to be made, but it’s a good way to get to know the history of the area a little better. There are 10 topics, which range from the story of a chicken and steak restaurant, to a biography of a Canadian track and field star, to a group of women protesting the fact that their children had to walk to school across railroad tracks. Most of the stories are told by family members of the subjects and include vintage photos of the area, including early pictures of my children’s school. Enjoy.
